What is Cell Wall?

The cell wall is the outermost covering of a plant cell. It is found only in plant cells. Cell wall is made up of non-living cells and its organization varies in different plant communities.

Cell wall of only algae and developed green plants is made of cellulose while cell wall of bacteria and fungi is made of carbohydrates. The main function of the cell wall is to protect the cytoplasm and cell membrane from external injuries.
