Xylem is the water conducting tissue of a plant. There are various cells present in Xylem such as Vessels, tracheids, fibres and Xylem parenchyma.
Functions:
1. Vessels:- Vessel is not a single cell, but it is a series of cells which joined from end to end to form a long tube. It does not have living protoplasm at maturity. It helps to transport water to the upper parts of the plants.
2. Tracheids:- It is a long narrow cells that taper at the end. It also does not have living protoplasm at maturity. It also helps in transportation of water in plants.
3. Fibers:- Fibers also doesn’t have living protoplasm at maturity. It provides strength to the tissue.
4. Xylem parenchyma:- It is only the living component of Xylem. It helps is transportation of water and it also store food.
