The Significance of Meiosis Cell Division:
- Chromosomal reduction: As a result of Meiosis Cell Division, male and female germ cells are formed, in which the number of Chromosomes is halved. The somatic cells formed after fertilization then double the number of Chromosomes which is the normal number in the parents.
- Exchange of genetic material: Chromatin material is exchanged with each other during Meiosis Cell Division. As a result, there is a good mixture of the qualities of the male parent and the female parent. This increases the possibility of incorporating new and good qualities in the children.
