What are Invertebrates?

The animals that which do not have backbone are called Invertebrates. These kinds of animals mostly found in water.

On the basis of their body structure and habits Invertebrates are divided into eight major phyla:

  • Porifera ( Sponges)
  • Coelenterata or Cnidaria (Hydra, Jellyfish, sea anemone etc.)
  • Platyhelminthes ( flatworms, tapeworms, liver fluke etc.)
  • Nematoda or Aschelminthes (roundworms)
  • Annelida (segmented worms)
  • Arthropoda (Joint-footed animals)
  • Mollusca (soft-bodied animals)
  • Echinodermata (spiny-skinned animals)
